The Wandering Widow-Day 2

I talk to my dead husband as I drive down the highway.

"Are you seeing these colors?" I ask. "Have we been on this highway before?"

"This is eagle country I think. Can you have an eagle fly by? "

"Did I miss the turn-off? "

" Does the car sound funny to you?"

"Is that ice? Am I driving on ice?"

"Should I buy that necklace from that nice Navajo man?"

"Can you believe how beautiful it is here?

It was a four-hour drive and not once did he answer me, so I figured he couldn't hear me. Then, a magnificent, giant golden eagle, the glitter on his wings sparkling in the sun swooped in front of the car and I laughed.

He heard me.

Writing while Broken

It's been four months since I blogged, but I have a great excuse- I fell down.

Backwards. Really far. In Colorado, a week after my last post.

I'll spare you the details except to say my right wrist- my writing hand- broke in 12 pieces. It was quite dramatic.

Anyway, I am still healing, but while I was broken I continued to write- albeit painfully

slower and with only one finger.

A writer writes!

And we continued to travel and we will in 2018. On this last day of 2017- a horrible, very good year- the Los Angeles Times published my essay about living on the road.

Making Plans

One of the major benefits of living in a motorhome is that you can make plans and then change them two hours later.

"How about we go back out on the road," I ask the wife.

She responds by saying, "Sounds good, come up with a plan."

As the plan is formulating, four or five completely legitimate alternatives circle the grey matter. The most important factor is considering what makes the most sense weather wise. Death Valley in August is just stupid. As is Frisco, Colorado in January.

I have heard many say that the planning of a trip is actually one of the best parts of the trip. So, if that's true, the wife and I are literally living one of the best parts of a vacation on a daily basis.

We must, because of lease laws, vacate the current address for 30 days and then we can return. So the options at this point seem endless. The wife and I are very much enjoying our, sometimes, hourly conversations about the possibilities.
